It was around 9.45 PM on 27th July 2013 while in sitting in bus I started wondering where life would take me from Now. I was heading to Nadiad. Before this only once in my life I had visited the city. Didn’t know anyone there also no one from my knowing was with me. Now it has been Two and half year in Nadiad.
Hold on a second! Let me start from beginning of “The Beginning”. I was born on 1st January 1995. Just cut the 11 and I was in 7th standard (2006) when I decided to be a software engineer. There was couple of reasons to choose this field one was, I became fond of computers and second was money that a software engineer can generate. Cut 4 more years it 2010 I cleared 10th with descent percentage. I had couple of options to full fill my ambition one join Science stream or go for diploma in Software engineer and later join Bachelors of Engineering. I choose the second one.
A year passed by and in 2011 got a chance to visit DDIT (actually DDU but if you ask any non DDUins they would refer it with the name DDIT). I was in Nadiad for first time, it was for a technical event Clarotechnico similar to Felicific. That was the time I decided to join DDU after diploma. Couple of years more passed by, 2013 was the time and I completed diploma with good grads. After rigorous admission process of ACPC I was able to get a seat in DDU Nadiad in department of Computer Engineering.
First day in Nadiad
Now it’s time to get back to timeline. On 28th July 2013 Sunday I land my feet to Nadiad. I land down at Maha Gujarat Hospital. As I didn’t know anyone one here the only option for stay was Hostel, previously I had talk to Royal Care hostel and it was fine from their side. I picked up Auto Rixa and reached to Hostel. I had second plan in my mind if Royal Care refuses to let me stay there. The plan was to go Vidhyanagar (17 Km from Nadiad) where some of my diploma friend were already there.
I was not able see anyone at Royal Care (not even security guard) as it was 6.30 am in morning and also Sunday. I sat there for a while and waited for someone to come and see me. I didn’t had much luggage with me. Someone came from inside, looked as if a student. He asked me sit inside. First thought about hostel was WOW. I sat inside for a while and someone from Management staff came and asked about me.
Bittu Bhai the owner came on 10 AM. I filled the form but about the payment shocked me. I had to submit semester fee (about 30K CASH) before getting into hostel. For a second I thought how can they expect me to carry 30K cash? I had about 12K cash with me, gave 10K and promised to submit rest of amount in few day via cheque.
One of staff member got me into hostel room (Room No 215, the last room on second room). It was room of total 3 people. It was specious and attached bathroom. I was like WOW again. On whole I really liked the hostel and what made it look great that it was in front of Nadiad Canal.
DDU has 3 sessional + 1 external exam, if you spend whole 3.5 year as last semester is reserved for project or training and if you are lucky enough you would end up giving at least 140 exams of five subjects each semester.
You are given three chances to clear any exam. Regular exam, Remedial Exam and finally Re-Remedial exam and if you failed on all three occasions you be put into shell for a whole year.
First day of College:
It was 29th July 2013 Monday. It was sessional exam for regular students. But we (diploma to degree students) had extra lectures to cover up whatever we had missed due to a month late admission. On around 10.30 AM it was first lecture in DDU and it was of Network Analysis (Personally speaking I use to hate the subject but had no problem with faculty). In afternoon I had to attain first lab and guess which lab it wasL?
After a week I joined with other regular students. Third semester was toughest. Subjects that I didn’t wanted to learn. Once Mathematics used to be my favorite subject, now it was not so. My grads in sessional exams were lowest till date. I was just able to clear the limit in sessional. Then there were externals, 2nd December 2013 and of Mathematics 3. All final exams were descent and I didn’t expected any problem.
Then results came, I got remedial exam in Mathematics 3. One of my friend told this and I quote “The virginity was gone”. I never had failed in any exams in whole life. A month later there were remedial exams. I expected to clear them but result contradicting. I got a “Re Remedial Exam”. This was frustrating!!
A month went pass by and this time it was “do or die” situation for me. First hour in exam was blank, was not able to solve a single question. My mind was full of thoughts that what I’ll do productive next year. Next couple of hours were descent for me, I was able to solve one or two questions. After exam I at 50-50 chance. Results came and it was positive. Needed 24/60 marks to clear and I got 24 ;).
As computer engineering was not working for me, I started considering some other options such as MBA or civil services. I choose MBA, also joined classes and paid a good amount.
Time again turn in favor of me:
After spending first couple of semesters in shell I wanted to come back all guns blazing and summer vacation of 2014 just did that. I analyzed myself and came with answers where I was lagging. Those couple months were learning phase for me. Couple of things I learned in that period:
- You cannot take things for granted.
- To learn something new, first you have to unlearn.
Fifth and sixth semesters were good in terms of studies. Also made some lifelong friends. This was the time when I really started enjoying engineering, especially environment of DDU.
It was also the time when I switched from hostel to PG. Being a paying guest was something new to me. Only reason that I left hostel was the “FOOD”. Personally I don’t like Gujarati food. I never got the answer, why they make food taste like sweet. The PG life was totally different as compare to hostel. I felt it is more mature life then of hostel. Every night we had to decide where to eat, sometime the decision would take hours (still it does). Celebrating birthdays or special events were more quitter than of hostel.
These two semester passed on brisk speed. Collected so many memories that I would remember throughout my life, some of them would make laugh and some pour tears in my eyes. This was the time when selfies took the world by storm and why we would back off. We used click selfies without no reason. This was also the time when I decided to pursue my career as software engineering not a MBA person so I quit MBA ambition. The main reason for quitting was from inside never felt the thing which I felt when I choose computer engineering.
Last year I skipped Felicific, this time I didn’t wanted to. After felicific I came to know that there is not much dduians celebrate but when they do, they do it good. All and all these were best time which I spend in DDU.
The final chapter of book:
Final chapter began with beginning of seventh semester. Lots of great things happened to me. After reading throughout my life it was time to write something my own. I decided to have a website from which I could share my thoughts.
Seventh semester was also a high time due placement season so as for me. After five rejection (one interview) I finally got selected in one. I called my parents and they were like “You decide what you want to do, if you don’t like then you reject it”. I decided to stick.
Changes that these two and half year in Nadiad brought inside me:
I felt more maturity inside. Became more adaptable to changes. Can tackle new things in life. Ego was destroyed by DDU and that is great. Became more helpful and also never hesitate to ask help if needed.
The best part: FRIENDS
Someone has said that “Keep the best act for last” and this is certainly is. Never knew when some people became friends from nobody and from friends for best friends. I shall try to list all of them and how we became friends.
On first day in hostel, Saurabh was the first to offer help if I needed. That time I never knew that we would become friends and from there roommates.
For Deviesh Story is quite similar to Saurabh Limbani. I used to spend more time in room number 202 than mine because of both of them. Can’t forget Kartik Hadula the free bird.
I don’t remember when I became friends with them. I think I time did the trick. I spend fifth semester’s final exam time at their place. Both contradicts each other. One is famous in whole college and other one is facing identity crisis in same class. 😉
Bhavya never came to my mind whole 3rd semester even being in same hostel and next class to mine. I came to know him after 3rd semester. His greatest quality that he resembles the great Mahatama of India in term of thought.
My first thought about Darpan was “Ok he lives in same hostel and batch”. But learn a lot from him as time passed. His greatest quality is that he can make you believe in pseudo.
Did couple of trips with them. Both are teachers to me, learn a lot of things from them.
Only thing common between them is that they both leaves under the same roof. I don’t know when Parth became friend to me.
I came to know about Mayur via Parth. Both are great support. Always cheerful. Mayur bhai tamari Khichadi best hoy.
All are diploma to degree student. Bapu is best at cooking. We always use to wait for his cooking. Great at heart but sometime short-tempered.
Bhai is a character that would do something that nobody would be expecting. He is so unpredictable that he would have surprised himself many times.
Sagar is an ideal person everyone would like to become. He is one of the most cool headed person.
Bond is very good at talking. One of the best I have seen. He can convince you within seconds.
There are many Pratiks in my life but this a person that always sits behind me in exams. One of the most helpful person. Always shares his journals. First time we met when my division was changed.
I came to know Mohit same way as Pratik. I, Mohit and Pratik did pre-final year project together. I always felt that lots of secretes about him are hidden inside him.
Savan a great mathematician and I stand on totally opposite of him.
We are from same city and were in same hostel, but never came to know much in hostel. I came to know about him more on Nadiad/Bhuj railway station. Most of time we traveled together to/from Nadiad.
Both are from EC background. Both were in same hostel as I. Mukesh taught me Maths and I C++ programming to him. Because him I was able to clear my Re-Remedial.
One day I was having lunch in cafeteria of Royal Care hostel and he came sit in front of me. We had talk and later gradually we became friends.
Both contradicts each other. One takes situations too serious and other just chills. Kaushal is always a good teacher to me. We still greet each other by Namstay. 😉
Gol is one of the coolest personality in my class. Always greets him by “Yo Gol!”. Learn a lot of from him.
I would have missed some of them for surely. If your name is not included don’t worry you are included in my life and never will forget. This placement season I was able to make lot of friend with similar state ;). Some would ask why girl’s column is null. There is no reason for that, I never had guts to ask out that girl 😉 .
I shall always cherish these moments for whole life. If any suggestion then let me know.
