Brief about Bhadra Fort Ahmedabad
Bhadra Fort is in old Ahmedabad area. Ahmed Shah, I built Bhadra Fort in 1411 when he took over Ahmedabad(then Karnavati). In 2014 AMC(Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation) with the help of Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) renovated. It was renovated as a cultural centre for the city.
History of Bhadra Fort
The foundation stone of fort was laid down at Manek Burj in 1411 (named after saint Maneknath, also Manek Chowk was named after him). Saint Maneknath also know as Baba Maneknath help Ahmed Shah to build Fort. Fort used to have 8 gates. But now fort has been squeezed in size. I could find the only couple of entrances.
How to reach Bhadra Fort?
To be here you must be in Ahmedabad. One can reach Ahmedabad by Air, Road or train. Following are different ways you can reach to the Fort:
Railway Station: Fort is around 2.5 km from Kalupur railway station.
Bus Station: Distance is around 2 km.
Airport: From Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport it is 10 km.
Because of the distance from all of above being not much that you can use public transportations if you wish to reach to the fort. Or private transport is a good choice.
It wasn’t on my travel list at first, was just walking and saw the fort.
How much time and best time?
There is no ticket visit the fort. First of all, you have to make an entry in a file just for a record. It would not take more than 30 mins to cover the whole fort and would be great if you visit in morning or evening. Avoid afternoon, only because of weather.
Fort surrounding is a great place for shopping, mainly clothes.
