“We travel not to escape life, but for life not to escape us.” – Anonymous
As being an engineering student it is difficult to extract some time for traveling and being in Dharmsinh Desai University, it becomes very hard to get some time off for anything else.
I joined Dharmsinh Desai University in the year of 2013 but didn’t got time to travel in regular schedule. After almost couple of years I got the chance to travel somewhere.
I with my couple of classmates (Bhavya & Darpan) and couple of mutual friends (Smit & Rahul), all four are very enthusiastic travelers, so I got along with them.
We visited Idar and Polo Forest. I’ll be covering more on Polo Forest in this article. You’ll find lot of mountains ranging from smaller to larger ones.
How to reach to Polo Forest:
Polo forest is around 146 km from Ahmadabad via NH 8. It can almost take up to 3 hours in bus. You can choose either bus or a private vehicle. So plan according to your comfort zone. First of all you have to reach to Idar, the nearest city from polo forest. It is around 40 km of distance between both locations.
Once you are in Idar there are two choices:
- If you are traveling through private vehicle then you can directly move towards Polo forest.
- Other option is that, you can reach to Idar by bus. After that you can walk to a Three-way junction near bus station, from which one of the way leads to Polo Forest. Constantly private vehicles(Mostly Jeeps) are traveling to polo forest. They take travelers in bunch of almost 20 per vehicle (That is a huge number if you compare to vehicle limit). The charge is modest Rs. 20 per person.
What can be done there:
Once you are in Polo Forest, you can do lots of things such hiking (as Idar is known as City of Mountains) and if you are fan of nature, it is the place for you. You can find three ancient temples in forest. They are
According to local people if you are fortunate(in some cases unfortunate) then you might find some wild animals(We didn’t spoted any of them). But you have to be careful while traveling. You won’t be alone, you will find many visitors there (I actually was surprised to see those many visitors).
After polo forest you can walk about 4 km ahead and you’ll gonna reach Harnav Reservoir where you can find The mountain, The forest and The river all three together. It is very pleasant place where you can spend your afternoon having lunch.
Some suggestion while traveling polo forest:
- Pack some food before you leave for polo forest. As it is a forest you’ll will not find any food stall near you. If possible try to carry as much as water.
- Be patient. Duration for finding vehicle is tentative, you might get 2-3 vehicles withing 5 mins gap or you even have to wait for 30 mins for vehicle.
So before traveling plan well and get suggestions from experience ones. If any suggestion please drop message or email me to firstname.lastname@example.org. Following is the gallery of Polo Forest. Cheers!
